New web initiative helps grass roots musicians take back control
from the music industry.
Launched in April 2005, Arkade enables musicians from every genre to
establish a professional presence within the music market.
Subscribers receive 100% of the download price for their music, and
retain all the rights to their material. There are a range of
additional services available to help artists and bands market and
promote themselves. By offering online distribution and download,
Arkade allows easy public access to a wide range of new music, bands
and artists.
The prime movers behind Arkade are a hard-hitting team who know the
industry inside out. Founder Greg Walsh realised that the existing
industry was skewed against new acts, thus stemming the flow of
talent and revenue. Knowing things could be done differently he
created Arkade. Walsh is a Grammy winning producer who has worked
with the likes of Pink Floyd and Tina Turner.
Arkade’s proposition is simple; “Your Music. Your Income. Your
Label.” Arkade is neutral, it does not seek to benefit or tap into
success but only to provide the tools and the community to foster
it. Whether you are a hobbyist or professional musician Arkade can
get you heard – and get you paid.
Arkade's appeal has already been recognised by Simon Woodroffe, one
of the UK's leading and award winning entrepreneurs. Simon
collaborated with The Blockheads to write, produce and perform a
collection of original songs entitled "How I Got My YO!" and is
using Arkade to increase the visibility of this work.
Arkade offers a low price (currently with subscriptions starting at
just £10 per annum), credible, reliable way of ensuring both a shop
window for great music and a secure and cost effective distribution.
Through communicating and cooperating with other members and the
vetted experts that will be provided by Arkade, these artists will
radically improve their visibility and ability to compete and
operate in the industry. As such, Arkade seems certain to become an
important destination and monitoring site for the A&R community plus
other industry professionals.
Customers are able to search for artists by name or by genre. Arkade
generates “charts” featuring the most popular downloads to further
drive interest. The initiative offers the perfect way to discover
and support new talent.
Arkade offers subscribers and customers the future of the record
industry: now. Add to that the fact that the direction taken and the
revenue generated is entirely in the hands of the artists and this
represents a serious shake up for the business. Arkade is open for
business. Get in line.
